Shireen Thomas

Staff Associate to the CIO, UPMC

Shireen Thomas is the Staff Associate to the CIO at UPMC. Shireen is responsible for managing all aspects of the Office of the CIO in the planning, organization, and execution of strategic technology initiatives for UPMC’s Information Services Division (ISD), which employs 2,000 technology professionals. Shireen has experience with collaborating and building partnerships with staff, executive management, and customers to facilitate strategies and operational plans for all ISD programs. Shireen is also one of the founding leaders of UPMC’s Women in IT initiative.

Shireen was recognized by Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania for the Inspiring Success in IT Award. Shireen was also a recipient of RedChair Pittsburgh’s development scholarship for women in technology. Shireen began her career in the inaugural class of UPMC’s ISD Rotational Program, which is an accelerated development program where participants rotate through four unique ISD areas over two years to develop a holistic perspective of healthcare technology.

Outside of work, Shireen is involved in Strong Women, Strong Girls Pittsburgh as a Mentor and is also the former Secretary of the Western Pennsylvania Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Board. Shireen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Systems and Management from the University of Pittsburgh.
